Market and community garden for Ruchill, Glasgow.

I was asked by Glasgow Community Food Network to provide a design for a market and community garden. Lots of design ideas in here including relative placement, privacy gradients for staff, willow on short rotation coppice, ramial wood chip, hotbed composting, appropriate technology and more.

Fees are from £525 to £865 depending on income. Possible bursary and work exchange.

On 28th Sept, James is working with Small Woods to offer a tour of Willowburn Woods. This is a chance to visit a human-scale working wood which is slowly getting converted from non-native sitka spruce to a more diverse, productive woodland. There will be a tour, chance to see some woodland buildings and a group practical.

Active Hope book study group in Penicuik.

James is hosting a study group for the book Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Jonstone.

Are you worried about the state of the world? Is it causing you emotional anguish? Not sure how to help or what to do? Then you’re not alone! This book looks at world problems, how they effect you and how to work with them to transform your life and actions. Bringing in aspects of Buddhism, Deep Ecology and Systems Thinking, it can be truly transformational.

This is not a taught course, more a chance for like minded folk to get together and learn from each other and the text. There is no charge for the group unless we end up hiring a room. Hopefully someone in the group can host us at their home.

Dates are Weds evenings, 7pm-8.30pm in Penicuik, Venue TBC

The next Permaculture Design Course is open for bookings! Starting in Jan 2024

As well as our normal flexible fees we are offering a possible bursary and also the Extended Training Scheme. The Extended Training Scheme provides the option of working along side our teachers doing practical work for an extra 12 days. This may suit you if you have a low income, have spare time and want to gain some practical, hands on experience.

Unfortunatley, we have taken the difficult decision to not run the Willowburn Woods Permaculture Design Course in June.

We had a lot of work to do on site to be ready for this course and with the wet weather have fallen behind. We are however planning another Permaculture Design Course starting in Sept over 6 weekends. This will be based in Penicuik and Willowburn Woods, Leadburn.

We are also planning a round wood timber framing course for June.
